Salary: From $100,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
Blue Chalk is seeking a Head of Production to lead our team and oversee projects from conception through delivery. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who can manage complex logistics while preserving creative integrity. Candidates must live in one of Blue Chalk’s operating locations.
Key Responsibilities
• Financial Oversight and Profitability: Own project finances with a focus on achieving a gross margin on all projects. You'll work closely with the finance team to forecast, manage, and report on all production budgets.
• Team Leadership and Management: Work with a team of producers, project managers, and freelancers. You'll be responsible for creating a supportive environment where your team thrives, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and within budget. You will possess the ability to motivate and lead a team to deliver high-quality work, even under pressure.
• Scheduling and Resource Management: Manage multiple project timelines and resources simultaneously. This includes meticulous planning of production schedules, allocating crew and equipment, and anticipating potential challenges. You'll have an in-depth understanding of the production process and be able to optimize workflows for efficiency without compromising quality.
• Negotiation and Vendor Relations: Exceptional negotiating, contract management, and relationship-building skills to secure favorable terms and maintain access to top talent and equipment.
•Creative and Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of filmmaking, including camera systems, lighting, and equipment, with the ability to explain their creative impact and guide teams in making storytelling decisions.
Qualifications
• 5+ years in a senior production role (documentary, non-fiction TV, or branded content preferred)
• Proven record of managing budgets, schedules, and profitability
• Exceptional leadership and negotiation skills
• Strong knowledge of production/post-production workflows
• Expertise in creative and technical aspects of filmmaking
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
