We have some great news! Two Blue Chalk projects, “American Beat” and “Confluence,” are set to be featured at two different film festivals, while “American Beat” and our film, “Beatrice,” have been shortlisted for two international awards!

“Confluence,” directed by Amy Marquis and Dana Romanoff and edited by Blue Chalk’s Greg Snider, is part of the official selection for the 2018 Adventure Film Festival

. The film follows an up-and-coming indie folk band as they traverse and document the Colorado River, using music to translate its story. The festival takes place in Boulder, Colorado, with “Confluence” screening on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at 6 pm.

“American Beat,” produced by Gail Ablow and created in association with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, will be part of the Justice Film Festival which takes place in New York City from November 1-6, 2018. The 26-minute documentary weaves together two stories: the determination of a former Iraqi translator for the U.S. military to become a Boise police officer, and the efforts of the Boise Police Department and the City of Boise to support refugees and integrate them into the local community.

In addition to airing at the Justice Film Festival, “American Beat” has made the shortlist in the "Short Documentary" category at the Association of International Broadcasting (AIB) Awards. The AIBs celebrate and honor the best in electronic journalism and factual storytelling. This is our fifth year in a row to make the shortlist!

Finally, our film, “Beatrice,” created for Dutch nonprofit Vastenactie, has been named as a finalist in the Lovie Awards, a competition that honors the best of the European internet. “Beatrice” was created to support Vastenactie’s Lenten campaign and highlights the impact of the organization’s “Household in Distress” program which aims to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS through education and health care.
