About the Project

Blue Chalk worked with I Have a Dream Oregon to create a short film that demonstrates the work the foundation does to empower more than 1,500 students from low-income communities, in school and on the path to college. The film introduces supporters and potential donors to just one of these "Dreamer" students, Alma Vasquez. In telling Alma’s story, the film illustrates the challenges Dreamers face and the support that I Have a Dream offers.

Alma dreams of discovering life on another planet. When her mind wanders, it is to outer space. Her greatest dream is to graduate college. As the daughter of hard working immigrant parents, the dream of becoming an astronomer sometimes seems out of reach. She finds encouragement in her science class and through I Have a Dream; on her 14th birthday, surrounded by family, Alma is confident and beaming, radiating potential as she makes her birthday wish.
