About the Project
Blue Chalk collaborated with NBC News Brand Studio and their client, Mercedes-Benz, to tell the stories of three LGBTQ makers who are redefining their artistic industries.
John Sorensen-Jolink left his home in Oregon to pursue his dream of becoming a dancer in New York City.
After a decade of professional dancing, he craved an artistic pursuit that was more tangible and permanent than a performance. His time on the road had inspired a deep appreciation for creating a sense of home, so he began to design and build furniture that people would treasure.
As his love for furniture design grew, he realized that his background as a dancer and choreographer gave him a unique perspective on how to design pieces that moved people through a space.
