In 2016, NFL player, Colin Kaepernick began to protest the oppression of black and minority Americans by taking a knee during the national anthem before games. Ever since players and teams across the country–from professional to college to high school—followed suit.
Players of the football team at Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon, decided to engage in the protest and kneel during the national anthem of their games. But it hasn’t been an easy decision for everyone.
This film explores the motivations and thought processes of four teenagers as they decide whether or not they want to participate in this form of protesting racial oppression.
This piece is a collaboration with Pearson Education and the first in a 12 part series of short documentary films for its sociology department.
